WHO IS HBM?

The decision to build or buy an existing custom home can be stressful and exciting all at the same time.  One way to lower the stress and increase the joy of this process is to become more comfortable and confident with the people “behind the company” building your next dream home.  Given this, we thought you might appreciate some background on our company.

The McLaughlin family has been in the building trades for over 20 years.  The family’s original roots were in Southern California where John McLaughlin (the construction supervisor for HBM) was a licensed general contractor for over 2 decades working on numerous residential projects.  John has an extensive background in every aspect of residential construction including grading, foundation work, framing, plumbing, roofing and electrical.  John brings a wealth of first hand construction knowledge to every home we build. 

Rob & Colleen McLaughlin (the brother and sister-in-law of John McLaughlin) moved to the Indianapolis area 15 years ago where they eventually settled in Hamilton County.  Rob & Colleen have been blessed with other local business experience and success.  Along the way, Rob & Colleen have designed and built several homes for their personal use and investment and experienced first hand many of the struggles of using the current custom home building process.  From their first hand experiences, they became convinced there had to be a better way to build a custom home.

Prior family success and established banking relationships has allowed the family to form HBM with a strong financial position.  The company was established for the lasting benefits of operating a construction business in the local area.  Our first priority was to build our reputation with superior products, develop new ideas on how to run the process of custom home development, establish lasting customer relationships, and eventually to build a successful business around these concepts.  We knew this would take several years of investment to eventually pay dividends and financed the company accordingly.

Beyond the financial strength of the company, HBM is also dedicated to getting things done “the right way”.  As an example, as a builder, we are fully insured with the following policies:

- General Liability
- Worker’s Comp
- Builder’s Risk

While these policies are often viewed as resources used to protect the company, they also protect our customers, because they ensure the company has the insurance in place to handle any contingency.  We operate our company both internally and externally with a true sense of openness, integrity and ethics.  This is how we have always operated and it seems it is a critical set of values for the building trade in particular.  We certainly hope you experience this with each contact you have with our company.
